In 1962, under the direction of Dr. Harold B. Slightler and Tabernacle Baptist Church, Greenville, SC, the Tabernacle Children’s Home was founded for the purpose of caring for orphans and children left in broken homes, as well as children from dysfunctional families. Although they do not accept children beyond the age of twelve, they care for children from infancy to adulthood. They do not accept children with violations of the law, addictions or disciplinary problems. The home does not charge for its care except for short term care (less than two years). The home is support financially by Tabernacle Baptist Church, various churches and individuals, and the Tabernacle Children’s Home Trust Fund which was established by Dr. Slightler prior to his death.
